Nature and the city

I love being in nature, and I feel most of us do. Being connected with nature or Mother Earth gives me so much energy to my body and brings so much calmness to my mind and soul.

I believe you know the feeling when you’re surrounded by trees, standing on the ground, or experiencing awe when in the mountains or at the beach. It feels like all the worries and mundanity of life just melt away. And that’s why we love going on holiday so much!

There are many researches that explain the benefits of nature exposure for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Spending time in nature can have a positive impact from reduce risk of chronic diseases to reduce stress, boost creativity, promote social connection. From spiritual perspective nature nurtures our souls, bringing peace and inspiration.

Well, I don’t think I should explain the benefits further, because I know we already know or aware. At least, at some extend we feel it in our body, mind and soul.

Unfortunately, I live in this big city and in an apartment building quite high from the ground. Though I love where I live, I always feel like I need to be closer and connected to nature no matter what. Here’s what I do:

1) Mini gardening

I’ve been doing gardening on my balcony for about 2 years, and I just love it so much! It started really small, little did I know I added more (some are gifts from friends) and my plants grew bigger and bigger. I just love being around them, and it’s actually very easy! Water and sun are all you need. They grow so much, and even I started to share them with my neighbors and friends.

Not just watering them, I also started to do more activities surrounded by my plants. I write my journal and even meditate on my balcony in some mornings. I feel so grounded and connected every time I do it.

Pro tip: talk to your plants everyday. Tell them you love them and send lots of love and light. ❤️✨

2) Morning walk

Once or twice a week I go for a morning walk for about 30 minutes in the neighborhood. I love the feeling of being more grounded when walking. I say hi to trees on my way, and I stop by the small park where I can touch and have my moments with some of the trees that look really old. It’s my favorite time of my morning walk!

Once in a while, I also go the city park nearby. The closest one to me is Tebet Eco Park, not just for the nature. I love observing people there. The park has a huge outdoor playground. Once, I brought my nephews here and they had tons of fun!

3) Meditating and practicing Qi Gong barefoot

Usually after my morning walk, I take time in the green area in my apartment building. It is located in the back of the building, so it’s usually empty there. I take off my shoes letting my feet touch the ground, sit down in the grass after a long walk, and meditate. Though I can hear the sound from the nearby highway street, I feel very peaceful and calm. I usually continue practicing my Qi Gong barefoot and leave feeling energized.

When I walk back to my apartment unit, I never put on my shoes back, I just carry them and walk barefoot. It’s the best feeling in the world!

I’m so thankful and grateful to be able to feel connected with nature, even in one of the busiest city in the world.

So, how do you like about being in nature? How can you feel more connected to it?

I love you and have a grounded week!

Lots of love
