Hi, I’m coach Inuk, a Life & Executive Coach, author, and speaker.
Lots of people have been asking me about my profession as a Life Coach and have had many questions about it. That’s understandable since this profession isn’t widely recognized in Indonesia.
In this article, I’ll do my best to make my answers easy to understand. I really hope it can be a helpful future reference
What does a Life Coach do? What exactly is life coaching all about?
In general, a Life Coach is a professional who helps people become the best version of themselves and achieving their life visions by working on their mindset (sometimes their heartset too), and guiding them to take actions on it.
So, a Life Coach is a trained professional who supports individuals to achieve their goals in various aspects of their lives
As a Life Coach, my main role is not just to give you advice or shortcut. Rather, I am here to help you identify your issues, find solutions that come from within you, gain a better understanding of yourself, and support you in achieving your goals and dreams.
And most importantly, I will be with you every step of the way.
You are strong and beautiful, and you have everything you need to change your life.
All you need is to connect with your own wisdom and inner-strength.
I believe every single individual on this planet has the strength and wisdom they need to make their life extraordinary. For me personally, no one is to be fixed, sometimes we just need to be reminded of the significant role we play in creating the life we desire.
How does coaching work?

The easiest way to say, the coaching process occurs in a constructive discussion or conversation between the coach and the coachee.
During coaching sessions, I aim to listen deeply to you and ask questions that will help you reflect and learn more about yourself. You will gain a deeper understanding of yourself and more clarity of your dreams, and I will assist you in discovering insights from within, rather than relying on me or others. Here, you have the freedom to be yourself authentically.
I’m holding a safe space for you.
Every life coach has their own approach in coaching, depending on what they’ve learned and what they’re best at. I can also provide you with some useful tools to support you further, if you need them.
I personally currently focused a lot on self-love and purpose. Why? Because my many of my personal experiences is in that area, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to that.
In a coaching session, there will usually be many other things that come to the surface according to what is most relevant to you during the session. However it is, I will always give my best to support you, and I will always be honest with you, even when I have to say “I don’t know”.
What’s the difference between a Coach, Therapist, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist?

This is the question I’m most often asked!
The main difference between a life coach and a therapist (including psychologists, etc.) is what they focus on. A therapist typically helps us address past trauma so that we can be happier in the present. On the other hand, a life coach focuses on creating the future you desire by utilizing the resources in the present.
All professions are amazing and equally important, it all depends on your needs and focus. Some of my clients work both at the same time, for instance, because they want to heal their deep past trauma but also want to focus on building their future.
Depression and past trauma need specific treatment. If you feel like you need more help, I recommend reaching out to a professional like a therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist. Don’t ever hesitate to ask for help, okay?
So, what’s the difference between coaching and mentoring?
Well this is also one of the most interesting questions. A coach has a slightly different role from a mentor, counselor, or consultant.
Mentoring is about giving answers to clients’ needs or questions about a specific topic. For instance, a mentor often offers many suggestions or ways to reach the goals of the mentoring, using their own experience and knowledge in related areas.
Coaching is not just about the coach’s experience and knowledge. In a coaching session, the coach doesn’t try to give too many answers or suggestions. Instead, they focus on listening and asking questions that help the client reflect and find their own insights. This way, the change of the client’s mindset, motivation, and action will be stronger because it comes from within.
So don’t be surprised if I stay quiet to listen to you and then mostly ask questions. 😉
But of course, if needed and with the approval of the client, I can also provide suggestions in relation to the support and tools needed to help you accelerate the process.
As I explained earlier, a coach believes that every human being has the strength and wisdom to change their life, as long as they are given space to reflect themselves and their life.
Do coaching sessions have to be face-to-face, or can they be online?
Some of my clients prefer to meet face to face because they feel more open and comfortable, but many also prefer online sessions via Zoom because of time and location constraints.
And of course, my clients who live out of town or abroad will definitely prefer online.
Either way, depending on your preference!
Who needs a Life Coach?

Nobody needs a life coach. Oh, what?
To be honest, working with a life coach is a personal decision, not a requirement. You have various choices to transform your life.
However I also believe that having a life coach can help you grow and transform faster, while getting you closer to the life you desire.
One of the coaches I admire, Rich Litvin once said,
“Life can be exponential. You are far closer to everything you want than you could ever imagine. Miracles are far closer than you think.”
I have seen amazing transformations in my clients’ lives. From experiencing a lot more peace and happiness, way less stress and anxiety, significantly improved careers, stronger relationships with family or partners, and even start new businesses that align with their personal values.
That’s exactly what happens when we decide to take full control of our lives (and also allow space for magic to occur). Read more of my clients’ stories here.
I personally believe it’s important to have a coach in my life because it can bring many benefits and create a big transformation in me and my life. Right now, I have two great coaches, a life coach and health coach. They’ve both been incredibly helpful in supporting me focus on my personal growth and creating the life I desire. I’m so grateful for them.
What if I want to work with a Life Coach?
For individual coaching, we begin with a consultation session to see if we are a good fit for each other. Maybe I am the coach you’re seeking, but I could be not.
In this session we will explore your needs for coaching and also get a sense whether we can work together. Please book a schedule here for a consultation.
After the consultation (and if we are a match), I will usually offer a coaching program tailored to your needs. My coaching program starts from 3 months for life coaching. Please check here if you need more info of the program.
Even if you decide that coaching isn’t for you, that’s okay, there are no specific obligations during the consultation session. And of course, you can look for other coaches or supports that might be more suitable for you. There are many amazing life coaches out there! 😊
What else do I need to know?
Well, at this point maybe you can ask yourself,
“Am I ready to transform my life better and quicker with the full support of a Life Coach?“
Only you have the answer. Whatever it is, I trust that you are where you need to be at the perfect moment. Nothing is too quick or too slow. We are all on an amazing journey, and it is beautiful.
If you still have more questions, please leave a comment down below and I will do my best to provide you with an answer.
Thank you for being you. I believe in you.
Lots of love ❤️
