I think we all know that having a healthy morning routine is great and I love it a lot! It’s the time when I rejuvenate myself through a series of activities that I absolutely love (well, most of them! lol). It’s the time when I set the day right and energize myself for the day.
As we want to improve or transform our lives for the better, it’s the smallest change that matters, leading to significant transformations over time. And what could be better than starting your day right?
I’ve been building my mourning routine for several years, and it has transformed my well-being. However… throughout the journey, I found myself getting bored so easily and sometimes I feel like its more like chores rather than something I look forward to and enjoy. Finally.. finally, I’ve found “the right one”.
My mourning routine has been evolving over time, and today I want to share with you how to create one that is personal for you. And the best part, you’d love it!
Let’s go..
#1 Set aside personal time
I set aside 1-2 hours for myself in the morning, as I’m blessed with freedom of time. I usually start at 7 am.
However, I understand it might be not the case for you, especially if you need to go to work early in the morning or you have a family to take care of. Still, I recommend you to set aside time, starting from 15 or 30 minutes in the morning. If you can’t have it, how about waking up a little earlier in the morning?
#2 The key: stillness and movement
The best morning routine requires stillness and movement. You can choose any activities you love. S
tillness can be prayer, meditation or journaling. And movement can be as simple as stretching to dancing (my favorite!) to exercising like yoga, walking in the morning to strength training. Make sure you have both in your routine.
#3 Create a “menu” just for you
Ah.. this is really my favorite part. Instead of focusing on doing the same routine, for me it’s about creating a “menu” or list of activities that I want to incorporate in my morning. You don’t have to follow anyone, you can create one that is personal to you. I found this method is super effective to fight my boredom, and it’s so much fun!
Every day I ask myself in the morning, “what do I want to do today?”. You don’t have to do everything, you can pick just 2 or 3 things on your list. As long as it incorporates both stillness and movement, you are good to go! You can totally put anything on your menu, even some challenging activities too.
Overtime you will develop your morning routine, add more weight to it or even add more activities. You even may extend more time as you enjoy more doing your routine!
If you are wondering what’s on my menu, here it is.. (I have a super long one! lol)
Stillness
- Prayer – well, it’s Subuh prayer for me so this is a must 🙂
- Meditation – after years of practicing meditation, it gets shorter and simpler for me, 5-10 minutes that’s all I need. I do this every morning. Tip: If you are new to this and interested to try, you can find and download my meditation tracks for free
- Playing piano – Not sure, but I consider this as stillness practice too when I’m just playing, not practicing. This is very flexible, I can do it anytime of the day.
Movement
- Dancing – When I’m not dancing in the community, I dance by myself in the morning. I practice on my swing dance from YouTube video, or I do a dance workout from Bodygroove (I love this one a lot, best investment I made!). Also, recently I started dancing intuitively with this Bridgeton playlist on Spotify, kind of fun. Dance is my highlight now, I dance 3-4 times a week.
- Strength training – I’ve been working with my health coach for the past eight months and it’s completely transformed my health. For the past three months we’ve been focusing on strength training (the 10x practice) and I have to do it 3 times a week! It was hard in the beginning, but I started to enjoy it more and more.
- Practicing Qi Gong – I’ve been practicing Qi Gong since I learned the first time from Mindvalley two years ago and I haven’t stopped. It feels really good in my body and I love how it works with our energy body. I do it once or twice a week now.
- Going for a morning walk – In one of those days of the week, I decided to just walk around my apartment and spend some time in the small park nearby. I love being in the nature, mother earth nurtures me.
Bonus: Morning is also the best time for your personal growth, like learning something new. You can learn something from YouTube, reading a page of a book, or taking an online course. Or you can also do journaling in the morning (as for me, recently I moved it to my night routine).
Seems a lot? Actually not.. when you think about it, it’s just a menu, and I’ve been building this for a while now. I don’t do all of them in one morning. I just picked whatever feels good for me every morning.
Also don’t forget to always be kind to yourself and listen to your body. When you feel tired or unwell, you can choose the easiest, or just rest. For me personally, Qi Gong works best when I’m under the weather.
#4 Have fun!
Last but not least, keep it simple and easy for you. Only choose activities that you love the most to start before you add more challenges to it.
If you are new to a mourning routine, know that you can do it and I believe in you.
If you are happy with the one you have, keep going, I’m proud of you!
Have a positive and energizing week! 🔥❤️

With love,
