Lately, I’ve been feeling ungrounded, kind of restless in my body, not very focused… In short, it doesn’t feel good. I’m not entirely sure why. I feel like I’ve done all the things that would help me feel more grounded, like meditating and exercising, but still, I feel spacey.
But then I noticed one thing: it seems that more and more I am becoming less and less connected with the Earth. My gut is telling me that it’s because I rarely touch the ground, especially, my bare foot.
You see, I live in this concrete apartment building on the high floor, and I haven’t been going out as much. As I’m recently struggling with my health due to the air pollution issue, I’ve been limiting myself going outdoors.
I don’t go for morning walk anymore, or practicing Qi Gong barefoot on the grass. Many of my daily activities are now indoors. I thought this would improve my health, but it seems the opposite.
I realized that I’ve been losing my connection to mother earth.
What is grounding or earthing?
I talked about grounding, as in being present in our body, in my book I’m Worthy, but I overlooked the physicality of it. Turns out they are all connected. Grounding also literally means being in touch and connected to the earth.
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine shared with me this documentary video on YouTube about grounding or earthing, explaining it from a scientific perspective.
This video essentially reveals the scientific phenomenon of how we can heal our bodies by doing the simplest thing that a person can do… standing barefoot on the earth.
I’m especially touched by a story of a mother who is also a doctor, as she healed her daughters with grounding. If you are a mother, I highly recommend that you watch the video.
A light bulb turned on in my head. Oh my, this is possibly why I’m feeling even sicker and more ungrounded.
I’ve been disconnected with the mother Earth.
The benefits of earthing
According to the documentary, over 20 peer-reviewed studies have shown that grounding or earthing reduces inflammation… one of the most damaging internal biological processes that leads to many chronic diseases.
I also read from different sources that more benefits of grounding include improved sleep, pain reduction, stress relief, and better blood flow.
So yeah, I’m convinced. Not that I was skeptical before, I always love grounding or going into nature, only I wasn’t aware of how important it is to do it regularly, even on a daily basis!
Slowly I added more grounding activities outdoors, like going to the green area in my apartment barefoot or whenever I’m at my parents’ (even when visiting neighbors). I also took time to go to the mountain area last week and spent lots of time barefoot and sitting on the grass.
When I’m writing this, I’m back in Jakarta, and I honestly feel much better than before. I feel more grounded and healthy, and I promise myself to ground myself more every day, not just energetically but also physically.

So, how do you want to integrate more grounding into your life?
My invitation for you this week is to watch this 15-minutes documentary film and walk barefoot outside for at least 15 minutes. As a side note, make sure it is safe for you to do so.
Your body will thank you!
