I cooked pesto spaghetti for the first time yesterday! Well… not really cooking from scratch, as the pesto sauce was actually sent by one of my best friends Maria.

She grew the basil and made homemade pesto from it. All I did was boil the spaghetti and mix it up (lol). Oh, it was so good! 🍝

So.. my weekend was pretty chill. I gave myself a lot of rest.

Apart from the pesto cooking, I finished watching Emily in Paris Season 5 and then watched Champagne Problems on Netflix, the all sweet, feel-good romances (what can I say, I’m a hopeless romantic! lol).

It seems like my life revolves around Paris these days… not to mention the Paris painting sitting right in my living room. haha. 🇫🇷

So anyway, in one scene of the movie, there was a quote from the French philosopher, Simone de Beauvoir. Speaking on existentialism, she said:

“J’accepte la grande aventure d’être moi!”

(I accept the great adventure of being me.)

I did some reading this morning about the context behind her words, and it made me reflect deeply on my own life…

This is what I have always believed:

Life is created.

We get to decide our experience through our freedom, something we so often forget we actually have. It’s so easy to say, “I don’t have a choice.” I hear this a lot from my clients too.

But the truth is,

we always have a choice.

Beauvoir also reminds us, with every choice comes responsibility.

I think when we say we “don’t have a choice,” it often just means we don’t want to take the risk or the responsibility of making that choice.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong to take or avoid a certain option.

But simply having the awareness that we always have freedom and choice is what actually sets us free (even with the responsibility attached).

Only then can we truly start creating our lives.
