I was reflecting my post that wrote a couple of weeks ago about change. I mentioned…
I open myself to the greatest unknown.
Today I simply want to share one of my favorite poems from Rumi, which perfectly captures how we can embrace life with love and acceptance. Open to it as it comes, and let it go when it’s time. What a beautiful reminder..
The Guest House
by Jalaluddin Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Ps. I found this video where Helena Bonham Carter, an amazing British actress, read the poem. I love her approach, it’s different than I expected when I read the poem myself. I enjoy it a lot, and you might too!
