I watched Rental Family (with Brendan Fraser) on Disney+ the other day. It’s such a touching and real film. It perfectly captures those messy, complex, and deeply beautiful human feelings that we often try to hide. I laughed and cried, highly recommend it!
It stayed with me and made me think about the space we are creating together in Project Maven…
This past Saturday (28/03), we had our first Project Maven gathering in Jakarta, and my heart is still full thinking back to the day we met. We introduced ourselves through a “Rose and a Thorn”—sharing what is going great, and what is… well, not so great. 🌹
I was sitting in a room full of amazing women leaders. They are intelligent, humble, open, and beautiful from the inside out. I admire every single one of them.
What struck me most was that we usually only show the world our “Rose.” But in that room, it was the “Thorns”—the messy, unfinished, and human parts—that actually connected us.

For example, at that moment, my rose is feeling so blessed to do work I love every single day. And my thorn is going through a season of grief and heartbreak at the same time. Some days are just hard..
It’s not just about being strong. It’s about the courage to be messy at the same time. In our circle, all of it is allowed.
The gathering was a reminder that when we stop pretending to have it all together, we actually find the connection we’ve been looking for.
So, how about you, what is your Rose and your Thorn?
If you feel like sharing, I’d love to hear it.
You are meant to thrive.
And if you ever need my support, I’m here for you.
I’ve got your back.❤️
With love and gratitude,
Inuk
