The Alfamart Reset

I’m sitting back at my new working spot today (will tell you all about it later!), reflecting on a little shift I had last week that completely turned my mood around.

That day, I was feeling kind of stuck.

To distract myself, I started playing games on my phone. And even though I love the game, after a while, I just felt ick. You know that feeling when your head is spinning from too much screen time? That was me.

Right in the middle of that mental fog, I remembered an article I read by Dr. Mark Hyman about the power of movement. Walking isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It’s one of the best things we can do for our health and longevity.

He shares 8 different kinds of walks we can try depending on what we need:

  1. The catch-up walk: Walk side-by-side with a friend. Conversations flow much more naturally and deeply than sitting across a table.
  2. The problem-solving walk: Stuck on an idea or decision? Walking significantly boosts creativity and helps you find original solutions.
  3. The dog walk: A double benefit! Your pet gets exercise and you stay active and bond with them.
  4. The after-dinner walk: A short walk within 30 minutes of a meal improves blood sugar levels and enhances metabolic health.
  5. The mood-boosting walk: Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Even a quick 5-minute walk acts as a natural mental reset.
  6. The multi-tasking walk: Integrate movement into errands—like my walk to Alfamart, or taking a casual phone call with headphones.
  7. The self-indulgent walk: Save an audiobook or a podcast you absolutely love only for your walks, so you genuinely look forward to it.
  8. The mall walk: Bad weather outside? A shopping mall provides a climate-controlled, traffic-free environment to get your steps in.
My cat, Jeje, is too lazy to walk lol

Okay back to the ick (lol)I thought to myself, “Okay, I need to get out of this place. I need to buy a few things anyway, so let’s go for a walk.”

I decided to walk to the nearby Alfamart. It’s not too far, but not too close either, just the perfect distance for a mindful walk.

And… I left my phone behind. I only brought my wallet and my shopping bag.

I just walked slowly. No notifications, no distractions. On my way back, it actually started raining! And honestly? I kind of enjoyed it (lol). I ran a little, got a little bit wet, but it felt so good.

It’s been a while since I got caught in the rain like that. I love morning walks or joggings, but I realized I rarely ever take an intentional walk in the middle of the day or afternoon just to disconnect.

It was exactly the hard reset my spinning brain needed.

So, if you are feeling stuck today, seriously, maybe leave your phone on the desk and go for a walk 🙂

My wish for you is that whenever things feel a bit too heavy or loud, you find the space to just step outside and breathe.

You are meant to thrive.

And if you ever need my support, I’m here for you.

I’ve got your back. ❤️

With love and gratitude,
Inuk

  1. Best for me, and regular, is my morning mindfulness walk at 8am after my 7am meditation. Sets me up for the day 🙏🕉️
