On Saturday, we had our Project Maven gathering, and we talked about “Being Present.” It’s a topic that has been talked about a lot, but we tried to look at it through our current lens of life.
To me, right now, being present simply means: slow down, your presence is a luxury.

I realized that when I slow down, I stop rushing. My mind is more relaxed, and I am just… more present.
It feels like I own time, instead of time owning me. Time is precious, and that’s luxury.
But looking back, I realized that for most of my life, I’ve always been in a rush. Rushing, rushing, rushing. I want to go fast, always anxious about what’s next.
Maybe it’s the work culture, where speed equals performance. I became very fast at everything. But it also made me impatient, and honestly, I used to hate it when people were slow (sorry!).
These days, I’ve been practicing how to slow down in my everyday life (not just when I coach). It simply looks like:
- Getting in and out of the car — not rushing to start the engine and drive away right away. Just taking a breath first..
- Walking slowly and mindfully — oh, I need to train my muscle memory on this
- Eating more slowly — to be honest, this is probably the hardest part for me, I eat really fast!
- Talking a bit slower — also hard, I’m a naturally fast talker 😌
So on Friday, I took my time late in the afternoon. I went to a coffee shop and brought my book and journal. I finally started reading Pride and Prejudice (after buying it a couple of months ago! finally…).
I finished the first ten chapters, enjoying the reading for about an hour, then I journaled with pen and paper, and I even tried to slow down my handwriting.
Kind of awkward in the beginning, but it started to feel so good.
I’m really enjoying re-learning this every day. It’s a “new” way of being present. It’s when you don’t just try to be present, but really value your presence, as it’s the most precious thing.
Also, it’s the most precious gift you can give to others. Your undivided attention and presence.
So I truly believe, presence is a luxury.

How about you? Where in your life today can you allow yourself to stop rushing?
My wish for you this week is that you take a deep breath and move a little slower.
The world can wait.
You are meant to thrive.
And if you ever need my support, I’m here for you.
I’ve got your back. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Inuk
