Overwhelmed? Manage Your Energy

I recently had a session with one of my clients, an amazing lady who is also a director in a holding company. She shared that her schedule was completely out of control, filled with so many unexpected meetings.

She felt totally overwhelmed, not knowing what to do. She desperately wanted to fix her schedule but felt like she had no control over it. We talked about it, but it seemed we couldn’t find a way through.

After some time, my response to her was this: “Instead of focusing on managing your schedule, why don’t we focus on managing your energy?”

When our energy is high, we’re more focused, less easily stressed or overwhelmed, and far more productive.

So, we discussed some simple yet effective ways to manage her energy:

  1. 😮‍💨 Breathing:
    • Try 5-5-5 breathing (inhale 5 counts – hold 5 counts – exhale 5 counts) – repeat 5 times. This helps our nervous system relax instantly.
  2. 💧 Hydration:
    • Make sure to drink enough water (8-10 glasses a day).
    • Pro tip: invest in a really nice water bottle to motivate.
  3. 😴 Sleep:
    • Protect sleep fiercely.
    • Consider melatonin or magnesium to help, if needed.
    • Pro tip: put phone outside the bedroom, and keep a pen & paper next to bed to jot down any thoughts.
  4. 🍽 Nutrition:
    • Make sure to get enough nutrition each day. Focus on adding more healthy protein; think of diverse vegetables and high-quality meat🥒🥑🍅.
  5. 💪 Exercise:
    • Too busy? Add intentional movement daily. Take the stairs, park further away, and get up every 1-2 hours to stretch.
    • Pro tip: set a reminder in calendar or desktop.

It’s a game-changer. We realized that energy plays an important role in our daily productivity, not just our calendar.

It’s so simple, yet so powerful, and something we often forget.

Just one small change might make a huge difference!
